Marking and Feedback Project

From reviewing current literature around marking and feedback (see our Have you Seen Section!) and from visiting other schools - including Lavender School in Enfield, we are currently embarking upon two small scale trials across our school - one for extended writing and one for English teaching sessions.


Marking of Extended Writing Pieces

Instead of marking every piece separately, writing will be marked on a general class sheet which will provide next step tasks for pupils to complete. See the related documents for more details.

Fast feedback in English

This approach develops pupils' ability to self and peer assess as well as encouraging whole class reviews of learning and conferencing with pupils to discuss progress on a weekly basis. This is being trialled in another 3 classes across the school. Again see further details below.

With two classes in each year group trialling new approaches, this leaves one in each as a control group. Year 6 staff are not involved in any trial.
​As well as using progress in writing over the half term as a measure of impact, a sample of pupils in every class, and all staff will be interviewed/complete a questionnaire both before and after the trial period.
